Soccer Trainers & Coaches:
Greg Toney
played soccer at Spartanburg High School. Greg was also active
in intramural soccer while he was a student at Clemson University.
Greg has coached several ABYSA Rec. soccer teams and several indoor
soccer teams. Greg is a homeschool dad.
Sheldon Shepard played soccer at Veritas
High School. He also played with the Highland Football Club
(HFC) for several years. Sheldon has played soccer since he
was seven years old. Sheldon has played on many indoor teams.
Most recently he played on scholarship at Tennessee Wesleyan College
Team.
Scott Brinkerhoff played soccer in high
school and college. Scott worked as a teacher, coach, and athletic
director at Asheville Christian Academy for 28 years. He has coached
all different levels of girls and boys soccer for many years at
ACA. Scott is currently a missionary in Africa. He is home on
leave awaiting his son's wedding. Scott has two grown sons Nathan
and Peter. Scott believes that "excellence and fun come together
best when we play for the glory of God."
Priscilla Hunt has been
part of the Asheville homeschool community since 1990, when she was
in second grade and homeschool events were almost non-existent. She
played numerous seasons of rec. soccer and was a starter for the ACA
women's soccer team as a senior in high school. In 2005, she earned
a BA in Music from Asbury College, where she played intramural
soccer for three years and varsity for one season. Currently,
Priscilla works as a violin and fiddle teacher (yes, they are the
same instrument), and a dance musician. She is an an assistant
coach for the middle school girl's team.
Basketball Trainers &
Coaches:
David Payne has
played basketball at the High School and College level.
David has been awarded MVP awards, all conference awards and, held
scoring records at both the high school and college level. David has
conducted Basketball Camps for Ben Lippen High School and coached
with Upward Basketball league for the past three years. David has a
firm foundation of the fundamentals of the game. David is a
homeschool dad. David says, "Love kids, want them to have fun
at the best game ever invented."
Peter U. Kanipe successfully participated
and lettered in competitive cross country at TC Robinson High
School; Peter has been involved in sports all his life and has acted
as an assistant basketball coach for the boyıs middle school team at
Veritas Christian Academy. He enjoys a successful law practice
and is engaged to be married this summer.
Gus Schill was a four sport letterman in
high school: football, basketball, baseball and track. He was also a
college football player who later went on to coach championship
teams at both the high school and college level . Gus holds a master
in athletic administration/physical education and a doctorate in
divinity. Recently, over the last six years, in his "spare time"
while not pastoring a local church Gus has coached his boys soccer,
basketball and baseball teams. Gus, Kay and their four children have
homeschooled for seven years.
Kari Payne, enjoyed participating in high
school basketball, volleyball and track where she lettered in all
three sports. She played for the women's basketball team
at Bethel College and later for the Lady Eagles of Toccoa Falls
College; she was a starter on the 1986 NCCAA Championship Team at
TFC. She has coached children's ball locally for the past
several years. She is married to David and the mother of Meredith
and Lincoln who have homeschooled for five years.
Ned Gibson 1980 graduate of TC Roberson High School
(football, basketball and track) 1985 graduate of Appalachian State
University ran track for 2 years at division III Centre College
before transferring to ASU. Home school dad of 5 who loves all
sports and has coached 3 out of 5 of them in basketball. "When the
Trailblazers asked me to coach the high school girls team, it was
such a lucrative offer that I couldn't turn it down. Too bad I have
to keep my day job."
Thomas Johnson attended Asheville Christian Academy
where he lettered in baseball, soccer, and basketball. He was
all-conference in basketball and lead ACA as point guard to their
first state tournament appearance in '05. After graduating high
school in '06 he was offered a scholarship at Milligan College in
Johnson City, Tennessee. After playing there for a year he
transferred to AB tech to focus on progressing towards a degree. He
worked closely with Crossfire ministries over the summer and joined
them on a missions/basketball trip to Romania. He loves the game,
loves competing, and is excited to have the opportunity to be
involved in the development of the guys both competitively and
spiritually.
